Restoring the Land

Seeking the well-being of people living in Adaklu, Ghana

The construction of the clinic is complete! Praise God for answered prayer. Thank you to everyone who supported this project. You are very much a part of what the Lord is doing here. Inside are two delivery rooms and one examination room. The clinic will be dedicated when we arrive back in Ghana from North America and will start serving the community. This will take place in the early months of 2008. . The clinic will provide a safe, clean place for local women to give birth. The clinic is also used for teaching local midwives. Many of these women have been practicing midwifery with no training at all, not even apprenticeship with other midwives. Some of the women that we have trained will work in this clinic.

This the waiting room located just outside the main building. It will also be used for training.

Here is little background on my aspirations for this clinic. I ( Katharine) had felt called into midwifery when I was 18 years old. When Jake and I got married, midwifery didn’t seem to fit into our lives so I left it “on the back burner” for many years. One day, Jake suggested that I start pursuing midwifery again. That was about a year and a half before we moved to Ghana, long before we had any plans for long term missions. During the time I was praying about how to go about studying midwifery, I was attracted to a particular course on the Internet. When I called the founder of the school, I found out that she is a born again believer and that I basically agreed with her philosophy of teaching and of providing care to women. I knew that the Lord had led me to her course! Over a year later when we went to Ghana, I found out that this course was perfect for the situation here.
